A note from the director:

‘Harry and I met on Shifty, and I’m under no doubt his excellent score elevated the material greatly. I knew then that I wanted to work with him on my next project, so I started emailing him early, maybe two years before we shot Welcome To The Punch, before there was even a 1st draft, with tracks for inspiration. It ranged from Shigeru Umebayashi’s Main Theme for 2046, Ennio Morricone’s masterpiece for The Untouchables, to Elliot Goldenthal’s classic score for Heat. One night, for example, I was watching ‘The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974), loved the opening and phoned Harry immediately, exclaiming “Why don’t they score ‘em like that anymore, Harry, WHY?”. To his credit, Harry must have absorbed all this, knowing roughly what I was looking for.  This didn’t, however, make the scoring process any easier, Harry worked tirelessly, sometimes deciding to scrap entire compositions because it was either to epic, or too electronic, till we found the happy medium, and I’m so glad the final product has definite echoes of Umebayashi and Goldenthal whilst staying true to Harry’s style. On a final note, I’m reminded of long, happy days in his studio, both our wives heavily pregnant, ready to drop any second, Harry scrambling to deliver the score, me scrambling to deliver the film, whilst our wives delivered our babies seven days apart. For me, it doesn’t get much better that. And yes, I’ve already started calling him with ideas for the next film.’
